Bronx Jewish Community Council, Inc. was incorporated in 1972 as the Concourse Jewish Community Council, later changing its name to West Bronx Jewish Community Council and then to Bronx Jewish Community Council in 1986 to reflect its role as the borough wide Jewish sponsored anti-poverty agency. The agency represents the combined anti-poverty and service efforts of the five affiliated local Jewish Community Councils in the borough.
In addition to services provided directly by BJCC, some services are provided directly by the affiliate local councils: - Concourse-North Bronx Jewish Community Council
- Jewish Community Council of Pelham Parkway,
- Parkchester-Unionport Jewish Community Council
- Co-op City Jewish Community Council
- Riverdale Jewish Community Council
As a government funded agency, the BJCC provides its services to all persons in the borough, regardless of race, creed or religion. In the Bronx, the largest portion of the poor and near poor Jewish population has been the elderly, and the agency has evolved, in terms of expertise and program services that address the needs that characterize the elderly population. |
